2026 Day 1 in Nagoya

Mt.Fuji from Shinkansen

Mt.Fuji from Shinkansen

I had a short business negotiation in Nagoya.

I took a 90 min trip. riding on Shinkansen, super express, from Tokyo.

It was quite a good day.

You can see the Mt.Fuji quite huge and beautiful.

Nagoya is a large city located between Tokyo and Osaka.

The Tokugawa family had a great cultural and social influence.

Nagoya Castle is a typical example.

When it comes to food, people are fond of miso, and local dishes using miso are famous.

Miso-katsu is something that you don’t often get a chance to eat in Tokyo.

Of course, there are restaurants in Tokyo that serve miso cutlet, but they are mostly chain restaurants.

I was shocked when I tried the miso cutlet here. It’s called the original, but I wondered if this is what the original miso cutlet tasted like.

The ones at chain restaurants were just sweet and not particularly tasty. This restaurant is different.

If you’re eating the original miso katsudon, there’s no problem. Start with six pieces of katsu.

If you have room, you can eat 12 pieces.

The katsu is melt-in-your-mouth tender, with just the right amount of sweetness and a deep, rich umami flavor.

After quick lunch I moved to Agent office and did the negotiation.

The Tokugawaen (Tokugawa Art Museum is located)

The Tokugawaen is located in the northeast of Nagoya.

The easiest way to get around is by taxi.

The nearest station is about a 15-minute walk away.

Nagoya is a car-oriented city, largely due to the influence of Toyota Motor Corporation.

The Tokugawa family’s main branch was Edo (present-day Tokyo).

To ensure the lineage of the family continued, they established three branches: Kii (present-day Wakayama), Owari (present-day Nagoya), and Mito (present-day Mito).

This vast garden and art museum is the former site of the Owari Tokugawa clan.

I wish I could show you the inside of the museum, but I can’t.

There are things that were not lost in the US attacks in World War II.

Yakiniku dinner at ”Maruaki”.

I had dinner at Maruaki, a yakiniku restaurant specializing in Hida beef.

It was conveniently located in the Chunichi Building, about two blocks from the hotel.

It was cold in Nagoya in February.

Next to me was a white man (German, just kidding) wearing a T-shirt, walking nonchalantly.

It was so delicious that I forgot to take a photo.

I ended up with four, but it was the last one that brought me back to my senses.

The reason I eat yakiniku is because it’s rarely a disappointment.

Good meat is usually tasty.

This restaurant offers plenty of delicious food, but what really stood out was the rice and the red miso soup.

Satisfied, I went back to bed.

Genesis 1:29

And God said, “Behold, I have given you every plant yielding seed that is on the face of all the earth, and every tree with seed in its fruit. You shall have them for food.
