Octopuses fishing Tokyo Bay

I decided to go octopus fishing in Tokyo Bay.

It is a grueling form of fishing that takes place from morning through midday during the hot summer.

Last month, for the first time in my life,

I fished in Akashi City—a place famous for octopus fishing—and achieved excellent, highly satisfying results.

Although I knew that fishing in Tokyo would be tough, I decided to give it a try.

Times had changed. Octopus fishing had evolved into a new style using rods and lures. I

, however, remained committed to the traditional hand-fishing method, having gained my experience on boats that championed that approach.

Ordinary people rarely get to view the coastal areas of Tokyo Bay—including Tokyo, Yokosuka, Yokohama, and Kawasaki—from the water.

The landscape is dotted with factories, reminiscent of the setting of *Final Fantasy VII*.

Octopuses in Tokyo Bay make their dens near these facilities.

The fishing method involves moving close to these spots and enticing the octopus; if successful, the creature will latch onto the bait or lure, adding weight to the line.

Once it has a firm grip, a swift, powerful pull drives the hook home as you haul it up.

It is a grueling, long-haul schedule, starting from Haneda at 7:00 a.m. and continuing until 3:00 p.m.

One must also contend with the heat and the risk of heatstroke; failing to properly replenish minerals and fluids could lead to serious issues.

Furthermore, precautions against severe sunburn caused by intense UV rays are essential.

Artistic Object

Sometimes, even an ordinary bridge can look beautiful and artistic.

The result was dismal—I caught absolutely nothing.

Despite the significant investment of time, money, and effort, there was no tangible payoff.

Perhaps the real reward lies in the unique experience of viewing Tokyo from the sea, which stimulates my artistic sensibilities. I
