Sendai days Two

I discovered that it wasn’t actually that far from the hotel to Sendai Station.

It was just a few minutes’ walk through the shopping district.

I leisurely left the hotel and went to a grilled beef tongue restaurant called Zenjiro in front of the station for an early lunch.

Even though it was a weekday, there was a long line. I was surprised.

The system was that you register your order at the machine at the entrance, and once your number was called, you could enter the restaurant.

I had the extra thick beef tongue set meal.

It’s roughly about 20 US dollars.

Look at this delicious looking meat. It’s so tasty, all the flavors just burst into your mouth.

This restaurant must be popular.

It’s worth it. Compared to the restaurant we went to last night, it feels more casual, but the taste and content are both satisfying.

Took the bus to the Aoba Castle

Sendai Station is right in front of me. A five-minute walk away is the bus terminal.

Bus number 16 there is a circular bus for tourists.

I took it to Aoba Castle, the famous castle of Date Masamune.

It takes about 15 minutes by bus to reach Aoba Castle.

It’s on top of a mountain.

There are many tourists.

Thankfully, you can reach the main building of Aoba Castle by simply climbing a few stairs.

The castle is smaller than I expected. Unfortunately, it’s flat and there’s nothing left.

It may have been a magnificent castle, but we can only imagine.

The bronze statue of Date Masamune on horseback was cool.

The boomerang-like moon is a distinctive feature of his helmet.

He is also known to wear an eyepatch over his right eye due to an illness.

Aoba Castle offers a panoramic view of the city of Sendai. Nowadays, all you can see are the buildings.

Adjacent to Aoba Castle is Miyagi Gokoku Shrine.

It enshrines people from Miyagi Prefecture who died in World War II.

This red color truly symbolizes the beauty of Japan.

The gold decorations create an even more beautiful harmony.

The chrysanthemum crest represents the Imperial family.

On the way back to the hotel from Sendai Station, I stopped by another grilled beef tongue restaurant, this time called Kisuke.

They also have a branch in Tokyo, and I’ve eaten there before.

It was supposed to be extra thick cut, but it wasn’t, which was disappointing.

This is the same as in Tokyo. It’s a chain so it’s to be expected, but I liked the thickness of the ramen during the day, so I was a little disappointed.

However, the seasoning and softness were still at a satisfactory level.

I walked slowly back to the hotel, satisfied.
