Tokyo Bay Fishing–Conger eel

Tokyo Bay Fishing

Tokyo Bay Fishing

It’s that time of year again for conger eel fishing in Tokyo Bay.

This seasonal fishing activity, which takes place at night, has been going on for over 40 years.

The plan is to depart from Haneda, which isn’t too far from my studio, at 6 PM, travel across Tokyo Bay to near Chiba, do some fishing, and then return to Haneda at 10 PM.

I’ve been doing well this season, and I’ve caught about five fish.

Conger eels from Tokyo Bay are considered a luxury fish. If you were to have them as tempura in the Ginza area, I think one would cost around 3,000 yen.

The Tokyo Bay at night is calm, and the wind isn’t cold, but it definitely saps a person’s body heat.

In such cases, I recommend going for Sichuan cuisine after fishing.
